A Tribute to the Education Legacy of Mandela - Nelson Mandela Institute for Education and Rural Development

Mandela, Education and Rural Development

Nelson Mandela formally founded the Institute in 2007.

"There can be no contentment for any of us when there are children, millions of children, who do not receive an education that provides them with dignity and honour and allows them to live their lives to the full.

It is not beyond our power to create a world in which all children have access to a good education. Those who do not believe this have small imaginations.

The establishment of the Nelson Mandela Institute for Education and Rural Development is the realisation of a long dream for me. It will carry my name and embody my commitment to a world where all children are afforded the opportunity to fulfill their dreams.

Many of you have worked with me before in the area of education. I ask you to join me again to build something that will contribute substantially to empowering people who live in rural areas.

Our hope is that people across the world will support this institute and so help bring to fruition an idea that can transform our land.

I thank you."
